When a typical stretch limo won't do to transport you and 15 of your closest friends, there is only one option: a hummer limo. Hummer limos are rolling VIP lounges equipped with state of the art amenities that would make Hugh Hefner blush.
The hummer began as a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Hum-Vee) traveling the desert during America's first Persian Gulf War in Iraq. AM General began manufacturing a civilian a version of the Hum-Vee in 1991, and renamed it the Hummer. California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger personally requested a civilian Hummer be built and was the first to own one; he now owns several.
Since their initial introduction into the consumer market, AM General sold the rights to General Motors, which began creating newer, smaller models of the Hummer including the H2 and the H3. As soon as popularity started to rise, custom auto-makers began taking apart the Hummer and its younger siblings, the H2 and H3, and adding a customized chassis to create the Hummer limo.
In order to create a Hummer limo, auto-makers had to wholly disassemble a Hummer, remove its steering, carpet and seats, cut it in two and add a completely customized chassis in between. New wheels, brakes and steering were then added to accommodate these changes.
But customizing does not stop there. With the extra 15 feet added, automakers began adding any sort of amenity they could fathom – for them the sky was the limit. Fully-loaded Hummer limos contain large-screen plasma TVs, full stereos with up to 20 speakers and a subwoofer, multiple bar areas, lava lamps, mirrored ceilings, strobe lights and lighting shows, and even lighted dance floors. Hummer limos in Vegas are equipped with dancer poles for additional entertainment.
A Hummer limo without the accessories can cost between $95,000 and $125,000; though generally automakers manufacture Hummer limos for limousine rental services rather than personal ownership. Limousine rental companies offer an array of rental packages for any occasion from weddings, bachelor parties and prom nights to a simple stylish night on the town. Packages can start as low as $599 plus tax and tip for four hours to $1250 plus tax and tip for five hours. With 20 people that is only $62 a person.
Next time a special occasion comes along and you want to make sure it is exceptionally memorable, nothing beats cruising the streets in a 20-foot hummer limo, playing Xbox on a large screen TV, listening to loud music on several different speakers and enjoying a refreshing cocktail from one of the many bars. Just be sure to tip your driver.
