Custom Limos: Hummer, Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac DTS And Excursion

When it comes to renting a limousine for a special occasion, a variety of factors—such as comfort, luxury and types of features and amenities—determines which type of limo to choose.

For example, a six-passenger Lincoln Navigator may work best for a smaller party, but what if it does not have flat-screen monitors or an MP3 player? On the other hand, a 12 to 14 passenger ultra-stretch Excursion SUV may work best for a larger party, but it might not have the preferred features, such as a karaoke machine or VIP seating with a bar on each side. Therefore, to help ensure the right kind of limo is provided, car designers are creating custom limos to satisfy their customers' specific needs.

Creating Custom Limos

The most common vehicles in the United States today to undergo stretch limousine conversions include the Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2, Lincoln Town Car, and in some instances, even Corvettes and VW Bugs.

Depending on the size and capacity, creating custom limos can be somewhat costly. For example, in 2006, it typically cost about $85,000 to purchase a Lincoln Town Car sedan and have it stretched to accommodate up to six passengers. The cost for developing custom limos also depends on the additional features and amenities included.

Optional Features and Amenities

Typically, most limousines offer several standard features, including acrylic bars, vanity mirrors, floor lights, tinted exterior windows, a solid partition, a mirrored ceiling and fiber optic lighting.

Depending on the type of limousine, an assortment of other amenities may be offered. For example, standard features in a traditional Lincoln stretch limousine include an LCD TV, digital overhead control panel and a DVD player. A stretch Hummer limo offers zebra print interior, a high-tech surround system, PlayStation II, plasma TV screens and eye-catching rims.

Sure, all these features are great, but what if someone wants additional amenities which are not typically offered in a limousine? To help satisfy the needs of those who wish to make a significant design statement, custom limos can be built with an assortment of optional, and somewhat impractical, amenities.

From a wrap-around leather sofa with 180-degree seating, to bullet-proof glass, a fog machine and a pink exterior, custom limos may include a variety of desirable, yet uncommon, amenities and features to suit a person’s particular needs. Other luxuries sometimes found in custom limos include a hot tub, a limo touch electrical system, finished wood bars, karaoke/MP3/CD/DVD, exterior color change, an XBOX or PlayStation, tile or marble floors, and opera, disco or strobe lighting. Also, most custom limos include professional, properly licensed chauffeurs dressed in a business suit or black tuxedo.
